Software Engineer

About the role

As a Backend Software Engineer, you will play a key role in building and scaling the core systems that move, reconcile, and record funds across Company’s payment platform. Working within a fast-growing fintech environment, you will contribute to the development of reliable, secure, and high-performing backend services that support a rapidly expanding customer and transaction base

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions, while continuously improving system performance, resilience, and maintainability in a regulated, high-availability environment

Success in this role will be reflected in your ability to deliver high-quality backend services that support the stability and scalability of payment systems as the business grows. You will contribute to building robust, well-tested, and maintainable code that underpins critical transaction flows, helping to reduce production issues and improve overall system reliability

You will also play a role in ensuring backend systems meet security and compliance expectations, supporting a seamless and trusted customer experience

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs supporting payment processing, reconciliation, and settlement systems.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices
• Support the design and evolution of microservices-based architectures
• Contribute to system design discussions, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance
• Assist in improving system resilience, fault tolerance, and observability
• Contribute to unit, integration, and end-to-end testing of backend services
• Support the improvement of automated testing practices and code quality standards
• Participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality, consistent engineering output
• Build systems with performance and scalability in mind for high-volume payment environments
• Ensure secure coding practices and support compliance with industry standards (e.g. PCI-DSS)
• Work with payment messaging standards (e.g. ISO 20022) to integrate with banking and payment partners for fund movement and reconciliation

• Assist in monitoring, debugging, and resolving production issues

Requirements

Experience

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience
• Solid background in fintech, payments, banking, or financial services
• Experience in regulated, high-availability systems where correctness and auditability are first-order concerns
• Demonstrated ability to deliver production-ready backend services

Technical / Soft Skills

• Strong backend engineering fundamentals – no specific language requirement; comfortable in any modern backend language (e.g. Go, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Kotlin, Python) and able to pick up a new one quickly
• Strong problem-solving skills with genuine attention to detail – especially around numerical and financial correctness
• Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Experience with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)
• Exposure to event-driven systems (e.g. Kafka, messaging queues)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git)

• Knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Eagerness to learn and grow within a scaling engineering environment

• Good communication skills and ability to articulate technical concepts

Work Details

• Shift: Monday to Friday: 6:00am- 3:00pm or 7:00am- 4:00pm PH Time; depending on business needs
• Location: Makati | *Work from Home Until Further Notice
• Status: Contractual engagement
